James “Jim” McPeck, 64, of Omaha, Nebraska, passed away on July 31, 2025, in Omaha. A dedicated public servant and beloved family man, James leaves behind a legacy of courage, commitment, and love.

Born on August 25, 1960, in Omaha, Jim spent his life rooted in the community he served so faithfully. He graduated from Omaha Technical High School in Omaha and went on to complete paramedic training at Creighton University—an early sign of his lifelong dedication to helping others.

Jim proudly served in the United States Marine Corps in San Diego, California. Following his military service, he embarked on a distinguished career as a firefighter that spanned 37 years. He served with honor and distinction at both the Millard Fire Department and the Omaha Fire Department. His decades of service reflect not only professional excellence but also an unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of others.

A devout member of Prairie Lane Christian Reformed Church, Jim’s faith played a significant role in his life. His personal interests included love for the outdoors, where he enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. Additionally, Jim was an avid gamer, often found playing Call of Duty on Xbox.

Jim is survived by his devoted wife, Leslie McPeck; his children Nicole Gibilisco and James N. McPeck; and his cherished grandchildren Arriana, Alexander, Jamee, Anthony, Gunner, Greyson, and Chloe. He is also survived by his sister Cindy Payne Neiderhiser; brothers David Payne (Michelle), Bill McPeck, step-brother James T. Payne, and step-sister Christine Payne; and stepmother Kristee McPeck.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James D. McPeck and Diana Payne; as well as his stepfather Charles Payne and brother-in-law William Neiderhiser.

Jim’s life was one of service—to his country, to his community, and most importantly to those he loved. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.

Visitation Details:

Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 6, 2025 from 5-7PM at Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Thursday, August 7, 2025 at 11AM at Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Lunch to follow services at Prairie Lane Christian Reformed Church.
