Lieutenant James Adams, Engine Company No. 3, resides at 1025 So. 18th Street. He has been on the department about five years. He is a married man, leaving a wife and child. He was born in Ireland, and was 34 years old.
Omaha World Herald: August 10, 1899 – Four firemen were killed and two painfully injured late yesterday afternoon, by an electric shock from a live wire, while working at a fire in the building of Mercer Chemical company, 1112 Howard street. They were engaged in withdrawing an iron-bound ladder from the rear wall when the upper extension came in contact with on of the parallel wires in the alley. All of the men had their hands upon the cranks of the windlass and the current ran down the ladder, entered their bodies and hurled them to the pavement.
for the Omaha, NE. Fire Department, assigned to Hose Company No. 3. He served from July 8, 1895 until his death. James was electrocuted, along with three other firefighters while taking down a ladder. The ladder came into contact with electric lines at the scene of a fire, 1112 Howard Street, Mercer Chemical Building.
