PGA Golfers & Omaha Firefighters. What could go wrong?

On September 9 the Nebraska PGA hosted the Birdie Bonanza at Benson Championship Golf Course. For the second year, the PGA has asked for firefighter representation. Society Board Member John Stolinski arranged a team of four: Eric Jeanneret, Nick Winey, Mark Seeba and Brett Loffer. Mark Seeba reported, “I left Central Station at 07:00 and arrived at 07:30. We spent a lot of time with the PGA REACH Team.” The Team’s mission is to positively impact the lives of youth, military and diverse populations by enabling access to PGA of America Golf Professionals, PGA Sections and the game of golf.

The PGA REACH Team furnished each player with an Under Armor duffel bag, each with several polo shirts and a hat. The day started with Eric Jeanneret hitting the first ceremonial drive right down the middle. Mark Seeba reported that the OFD Team made 21 out of 54 possible birdies.

The players had free non-alcoholic beverages; lunch was catered by Jimmy Johns; dinner was BBQ. A moment of levity occurred while Nick Winey and Mark Seeba were in a golf cart on the fairway. Winey forgot who he was with and dared Seeba to roll over a PGA player’s ball.

The event was a success. The Nebraska PGA organizers hoped to raise $125K, but all told, realized $136K. The Omaha Firefighters Historical Society was privileged to participate in the event, and honored to accept a donation.
