Station No. 4, Abbott Dr – Eppley Airfield

Station No. 4 – Eppley Airfield open on March 29, 1967.  Prior to this fire station an Omaha firefighter was assigned to a single crash fire rescue unit at Eppley Airfield since 1942.  As Eppley Airfield expanded and airline passenger traffic increased the need for specialized crash fire rescue equipment and personnel were needed.  This firehouse had a total of 6 apparatus bays.  3 bays went onto Abbott Drive and 3 bays went directly onto the flight line.  Engine No. 4, later renumbered to Engine No. 22 relocated to this firehouse and 3 airport crash fire rescue units were stationed here until 1985.  At that time the Omaha Airport Authority established Eppley Crash Fire Rescue with their own personnel and Engine No. 22 relocated to Fire Station No. 21 at 34th and Ames until a new Fire Station No. 22 was opened in 1998.  The fire station was demolished a short time after Eppley Crash Fire Rescue was established.
