Station No. 22, 27th & Madison St – former SOFD

Fire Station No. 22 was originally a South Omaha fire station and was acquired when South Omaha was annexed by the City of Omaha on July 1, 1915.  It became quarters for Hose No. 22, was motorized on January 31, 1919 and reclassified as Engine No. 22.  It was the last firehouse in Omaha that operated with a horse drawn fire apparatus.  From August 1, 1933 to October 25, 1934 the firehouse was closed due to a lack funds.  On May 1, 1942 the firehouse was again closed due to a lack of personnel during World War II reopening in a new one story firehouse in 1948.  It remained a firehouse until February 8, 1966.  The building has since been demolished.
