Station No. 12, 27th & Jones – second structure

Fire Station No. 12 at 717 South 27th was opened on July 24, 1904.  It replaced an older fire station that stood next door that opened in 1895.  When the firehouse opened it became home for Hose No. 12 and Truck No. 4.  Hose number 12 was motorized on July 6, 1916 and reclassified as Engine No. 12 in 1918.  Truck No. 4 was motorized on May 26, 1917.  At some point it became quarters for the Central District Battalion Chief.  It remained an active firehouse until 1967.  The brass sliding poles were removed and are currently in use at Fire Station No. 1 (Central Station).  It currently privately owned.
