Station No. 1, 11th & Jackson

Fire Station No. 1 (1102 Jackson) was opened on March 18, 1904.  It became quarters for Engine No. 1 and Water Tower No. 1.  Some time in 1913 Truck No. 1 was relocated from Fire Station No. 3 (Headquarters).  Engine No. 1 was motorized on April 7, 1911.  Truck No. 1 was motorized on May 31, 1917.  When this firehouse was constructed it was 3 stories with a pitched roof.  The 3rd floor was a hayloft.  In April of 1917 a fire occurred in the area of the former hayloft.  The 3rd floor was removed and a flat roof constructed over the second floor.  An addition was also added to the rear of the structure that became the fire apparatus repair shop until 1938.  It remained a firehouse until 1942.  It was closed due to a lack of personnel during World War II and never operated as a firehouse after.  At some point it was sold and became known as the Firehouse Dinner Theater for many years.  In 1996 the building was sold again and became The Upstream Brewery.
