Station No. 14, 20th & Lake St

Station No. 14 opened on April 5, 1910 and was quarters for Hose No. 14.  Originally Hose No. 14 was activated on June 8, 1898 when Omaha hosted The World’s Fair then deactivated on November 30, 1898 when the fair was over.  Hose No. 14 became motorized on June 27,1916 and reclassified as Engine No. 14 in 1918.  At some point the second floor was removed.  In 1966 it was renumbered to Fire Station 20.  Prior to desegregation in 1955 it was the firehouse where all black members of the Omaha Fire Department worked from.  It remained an active firehouse until a new Fire Station 20 was constructed in 1978.  Today the building is owned by The Omaha Black Professional Firefighters Association with hopes to remodel the building into a museum or mixed use facility.
