Station No. 4, 16th & Izard

Fire Station No. 4. was opened on January 15, 1914.  The firehouse replaced an older building that was next door at 1001 North 16th Street since 1895.  Fire Station No. 4 became quarters for Hose No. 4, was motorized on June 23/1917 and reclassified as Engine No. 4 in 1918.  Truck No. 2 was moved to Fire Station No. 4 when Fire station No. 6 was closed in 1942.  Fire Station No. 4 remained an active firehouse until January 1, 1966.  The brass sliding poles from Station No.4 were removed and installed at Fire Station No. 1 (Central Station) in 1967 and are still in use today.  The building is privately owned and has recently received extensive work.
