Fire Station No. 2 was opened on September 9, 1868 and was quarters for Engine No. 2, a new Ahrens steamer fire engine and Hose No. 2. This was the second steamer fire engine that was placed in service in Omaha. On January 18, 1880 the firefighters of Fire Station No. 2 responded to Boyd Packing Company located at 2nd and Hickory Street. The fire caused $127,000 in damage due to no cisterns or fire hydrants in the area. When Engine No. 2 and Hose No. 2 returned to quarters the hayloft was on fire. For the second time it was believe to have been deliberately started. Engine No. 2 and Hose No. 2 relocated to FIremen’s Hall (312 South 16th Street) where Pioneer Hook and Ladder No. 1 and Fire King No.1 were located at the time. This allowed Fire Station No. 2 to be repaired. The exact date is unknown but records indicate Engine No. 2 and Hose No. 2 returned to this firehouse later in 1880. Engine No. 2 and Hose No. 2 remained at this location until moving to new quarters on December 13, 1913. The building was demolished.
