Lyle R. Reynolds

In Memoriam
March 11, 1934 - March 21, 2023
Field Apparatus Engineer

Lyle Richard Reynolds, age 89, of Omaha, Nebraska, passed away at home on March 21st, 2023, with his loving wife and family by his side following a courageous 18-month battle with cancer.

Lyle was born March 11, 1934, in Lewis, Iowa to Silas and Mabel (Weston) Reynolds. He graduated from Elliot High School in 1952 and worked for Montgomery County for a few years following. Lyle was united in marriage to Mary Ann Milner on April 17, 1954, in Glenwood, Iowa. To this union, Lyle and Mary were blessed with four children: Jack, Doug, Debbie, and Sheri. Lyle and Mary moved to Omaha, Nebraska in 1955, where he worked briefly in insurance, and then began his career with the Omaha Fire Department as a Fire Apparatus Engineer on Engine 1, receiving multiple letters of commendation from the Chief of the FD for his hard work and courage, as well as multiple lives saved throughout his career. Lyle retired in 1987 after 25 years with the Omaha Fire Department.

He was a member of West Hills Church, the Helmet Club, the Eagles Club, and many square dance clubs. An avid camper and traveler, Lyle and Mary traveled to many places across Nebraska, as well as places like Alaska, Hawaii, the Caribbean, and Washington DC. He enjoyed listening to classic country, watching western movies and TV shows, and reading western novels, especially by Louis L’Amour. A jack of all trades, Lyle spent many hours in the garage working on cars or building things. Every time you called him to ask how to do something, or to ask for help, Lyle was known to show up the same or next day with a plan in place and the tools to use to accomplish the task.

Lyle is preceded in death by his parents Silas and Mabel Reynolds, siblings Ed Reynolds, Gail Reynolds, Caroline Hicks, and Elmer Reynolds.

Lyle is survived by his wife Mary and their children Jack (Pennie) Reynolds of Elm Creek, NE; Doug Reynolds of Omaha, NE; Debbie (Scott) Drawbaugh Gardner, KS; Sheri Gregory of Omaha, NE; grandchildren: Nicholas (Brandi) Reynolds of Austin, TX; Joseph Reynolds of Kearney, NE; Katie (Jimmy) Bohlen of Hershey, NE; Stacey Reynolds of Omaha, NE; Megan Reynolds of Birmingham, Al; Jacob Reynolds of Denver, CO; Brian (Michelle) Magarin of Holstein, NE; Mason Drawbaugh of Gardner, KS; Hailey Drawbaugh of Gardner, KS; Matthew Gregory of Omaha, NE; and Sarah Gregory of Omaha, NE; great-grandchildren: Brenner, Bree, Ava, Ryker, Corbin, Brooks, Lane, Tessa, Emma, Phoenix, and Makena; siblings: Les Reynolds of Omaha, NE; Karen (Dick) Milner of Elliot, IA; Butch Reynolds of Elliot, IA; Dennis Reynolds of Elliot, IA; Patty (Chuck) Vestal of Emerson, IA; sister-in-law Janis Reynolds of Omaha, NE; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
