David Mann

In Memoriam
November 20, 1959 - February 28, 2025
Fire Captain

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved, David R. Mann, age 65. He unexpectedly passed away on February 28, 2025. David was born on November 20, 1959, to Marcia and Robert Mann in Omaha, Nebraska. He grew up on Gifford Farm in Bellevue where he was active in 4H and grew up with many fond memories at the Sarpy County Fair and Rodeo. He graduated from Bellevue West in 1978 and married the love of his life, Dana, in 1986. They had 3 children, who were his pride and joy.

He went on to join the Omaha Fire Department where his leadership shined as captain. During his last seven years on OFD, he served in the Public Education Department working with at-risk children and families as a positive role model and pioneer for fire prevention.

David never met a stranger and truly had a servant’s heart. He was an active member at St. Michael Lutheran church and led mission trips, taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. David felt passionately about teaching youth and created “Cowboy Dave”, an educational presentation about the life lesson of respect, the cowboy way.

After retirement, he and Dana moved to New Jersey to be near their grandchildren. Being a grandfather was his greatest joy and “Baba” was their most favorite playmate. His positivity, integrity, and zest for life will live on through his children, grandchildren, and all those impacted by his goodness. There is no doubt that his cowboy heart is happy as he lets out a “YEE HAW!” from heaven.

David was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Marcia Mann. He is survived and missed by his wife, Dana Mann; daughter, Rachel (Steve) Hayes; and sons, Paul Mann and Richard Mazikani; his two beloved grandchildren who were the light of his life, Michael and Madison Hayes; his brothers, Jerry (Jane) Mann, Chuck (Donna) Mann, and sister Susie (Bob) Engberg.
